Montréal Region

The parking permits assigned to us—and the privileges or restrictions associated with them—vary depending on the type of service (FLEX, station-based vehicles, etc.) and the location: on-street parking, off-street parking, and the city where the permit was issued.

Please click the links below to learn the rules applicable to each service type.

These vehicles are equipped with permits that solely allow us to occupy the spaces they are parked in when not in use (between reservations).

There are no parking privileges associated with using these vehicles.

When the station is located on the street, the vehicles have permits with various numbers (131, 143, 333, 363, or others). These numbers match the numbers found on street signs marking the beginning and end of the reserved portion of the street.

General rule in the Montréal area:

  • A sign with an arrow pointing toward the road marks the start of a parking permit (or no-parking) zone.
  • A sign with an arrow pointing toward the sidewalk marks the end of that zone.

In the Communauto app, click the station name to access detailed information for that specific station.

Note: It is prohibited to park a FLEX vehicle in spaces reserved for round-trip vehicles. This restriction includes on-street station spaces.

All FLEX vehicles display decals numbered 403 or 405, depending on whether the vehicle is gas-powered or fully electric.

In Montréal, these permits grant you the right to park in spaces reserved for resident permit holders.

However, this is only valid within the FLEX service zone (shown in orange in the Communauto app).

Restrictions in Montréal

Despite this privilege, like all road users, you must respect all current street signage.

In general:

  • You may not end a FLEX trip in a space that is subject to restrictions (whether permanent or temporary), even if parking is allowed at the time you end your trip.

Exception: 
This rule does not apply to street cleaning signs in Montréal (in effect from April 1 to December 1):

  • You may end a trip in a street-cleaning zone, provided that it is legal to remain parked thereuntil 11:59 PM the next day.

Note: FLEX vehicles may never be parked in spaces reserved for round-trip vehicles. This restriction includes on-street stations (see Round-Trip Vehicles, above).

Restrictions in Longueuil

Unlike Montréal, the City of Longueuil does not have a residential parking permit system or weekly parking bans for street cleaning. The rule is therefore quite simple:

You can park your FLEX vehicle on-street within the service area in any spot not subject to parking restrictions.

In other words, as soon as a restriction applies, you must look for another location to end your trip.

FLEX Drop-Off Points

FLEX drop-off points are designated on-street or off-street locations—generally located outside the FLEX service zone (but not exclusively)—where you can also start or end a FLEX trip.

Click the drop-off icon in the Communauto app to get more information about the location or specific parking instructions. Unauthorized parking in inaccessible areas may result in a ticket.

Unlike regular stations (see above), where vehicles are found at fixed locations, stationzones correspond to a specific area on the map. These vehicles are parked on the street, and their exact location will be shown to you shortly before your reservation (up to 10 minutes in advance if the vehicle is already free).

Station zone vehicles carry the same parking permits as FLEX vehicles (decals numbered 403 or 405).

So, when you use them, you benefit from the same parking privileges as with a FLEX vehicle.

How does a station zone work?

 

Unlike standard FLEX vehicles, Return FLEX vehicles:

  • Must be returned at the end of the trip within the specific zone outlined on the map.

These vehicles also carry the same parking permits as FLEX (decals 403 or 405).

Therefore, they enjoy the same parking privileges as one-way FLEX vehicles.

Note: It is always prohibited to park Return FLEX vehicles in round-trip parking spots. This includes on-street station spaces (see Station-Based Vehicles, above).

*This service is currently offered only in Montréal as part of a pilot project.

Interpreting Parking Signage When Driving a FLEX Vehicle in Montréal

Except for the weekly street cleaning exemption, you are not allowed to end a trip where one or more restrictions (even temporary) apply.

Street Cleaning Zone

Trip end is permitted here only if the vehicle can remain parked until the end of the following day (11:59 p.m.).
In this example, you could end a trip here until the end of the day on Monday.

Resident Permit Zones

Trip end is permitted in these zones as long as it’s within the FLEX service area (shown in orange in the Communauto app).

Examples of signs indicating places where you can NEVER end a FLEX trip in Montréal:

Reserved Parking

Parking spaces reserved for individuals with disabilities.

Reserved Parking

Parking spaces reserved for taxis only.

Reserved Lanes

Parking is prohibited at all times, even outside restricted hours.

Snow Removal Operations

Parking is prohibited at all times, even outside the posted time window.

No Stopping

Stopping, standing, or parking a vehicle at the marked location is prohibited.

It is strictly prohibited to end a FLEX trip in the following places:

  • In a private, residential, or commercial parking space, unless it is a designated FLEX drop-off point. Parking in a location marked as “closed” in the Communauto app can result in tickets. (Always check before using a FLEX drop-off point.)
  • In a location with temporary no-parking signage, for example due to snow removal. In Montréal, these signs are installed before 3:00 p.m. for snow clearing scheduled between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. and before 8:00 p.m. for snow clearing scheduled the next day from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Locations Where Ending a FLEX Trip Is Allowed Under Certain Conditions

Paid Parking (Meters)

Parking is allowed during a trip, but you cannot end a trip at a paid parking space, even if no fee is required at the time.

Exception: In downtown Montréal, within the permitted zone.

Charging Station

Parking is allowed during a trip if you need to charge the vehicle.

You cannot end a trip at a charging station.

Interpreting Parking Signage When Driving a FLEX Vehicle in Longueuil

You are not allowed to end a trip where one or more restrictions (even temporary) apply.

No Parking

Parking is prohibited during specific times and months of the year.

No Parking

Parking is prohibited during specific days.

5-Minute Parking

Only short stops of up to 5 minutes are allowed. You may not end a trip here.

Time-Limited Parking

Temporary parking allowed up to a limit (e.g., 120 minutes). Trip end is not allowed.

It is strictly prohibited to end a FLEX trip in the following places:

  • In private, residential, or commercial parking, unless it’s a designated FLEX drop-off point. Parking in a closed location (as shown in the Communauto app) can lead to tickets. Always check before using FLEX drop-off points.
  • In locations with temporary no-parking signage, for any reason.
